Vitiligo is a condition that causes depigmentation(whitening) of skin anywhere on body. It occurs when melanocytes, the cells responsible for skin pigmentation die or unable to function & skin losses melanin pigment which is responsible for normal color of our skin.There are many misconceptions about vitiligo in society but actually it is not even a disease. It is never life threatening but only a cosmetic problem. Vitiligo is non infectious & non contagious. It has many different types and it can be curable.

Cause of vitiligo is unknown but researchers suggest that it is autoimmune problem & it is due to overreacting of body immune system against melanocytes (pigment cells). Heredity is one of the cause but there is no rule that a person will get vitiligo if his parents having it. Genetic may be a cause.

There is no diet restriction. Because there is no evidence which claim that any particular diet can create or increase vitiligo. Normally good vegetables& fruits can be considered. There are so many skin problems which exactly look like vitiligo so always take expert opinion for correct diagnosis & treatment.
